Highlighters and Clear Highlights

Highlighters

The Highlight function on Read&Write for Google is a tool that allows it users to highlight information. The Highlight functions are a set of four buttons located on the toolbar. Each highlighter allows you to highlight in a different colour. This allows for its users to highlight based on topics or for multiple users to highlight a document using their own designated colour. This tool can be used to create a collection of information for its users, which can be used later for their own personal use such a note taking or using the information to create another piece of work. The highlighted work can be exported to a Google Doc. This function is available for use on Google Docs, PDFs and ePubs.

Students that could benefit from this tool:
This feature is beneficial to students that have fine motor difficulties. Students can highlight their notes rather than writing or typing them separately. Students with ADHD that have difficulty focusing on a large document could have vocabulary already highlighted for the student to focus on. Students that benefit from specific multi-step direction could have their steps highlighted with each in a different colour for a student to follow. Students struggling with organization can also benefit from this tool because it allows for them to use a colour for specific categories.

Use in the Classroom:
This tool could be used in the classroom for students to take notes. Students could use this tool to take notes on what they are reading. After highlighting, students can use this information to create a summary of their reading or writing. The highlighting tool helps students keep their information organized.

Clear Highlights:
The Clear Highlights Function is located after the last purple highlighter. After a word has been highlighted it can be removed using this Clear Highlights function. First you must again highlight the word previously highlighted using the toolbar. You can then click the Clear Highlight button which removes that highlighted section.
