Vocabulary
Vocabulary
The vocabulary icon on Read&Write for Google creates vocabulary lists in a new Google Doc. This feature is available on ePUB as well as PDF. In the new Google Doc that is created, a definition is provided as well as pictures. There is also another column for notes. One Google Doc captures all of the vocabulary that is highlighted in the source document so all of the words are stored in one list.
Students that would benefit:
Every user of Read&Write would benefit from this feature. Students who have difficulty writing or typing would benefit from this feature as they can highlight the words they wish to study or learn more about instead of writing them down or typing them. Students with dyslexia would benefit from this feature as they don't have to spell words, they can just highlight them. Visual learners would benefit as they can see pictures that represent the meaning of the words that are selected.
Use in a class:
Teachers could use this tool to prepare students for an exam. They could ask students to keep a running list of important terms. Students could be asked to highlight words they don't know in a text and find out their meaning. Teachers could create a vocabulary list for a class so that students could see the word, hear the word, see pictures or have a definition read to them. The uses of this feature are virtually endless; it's a very useful tool that could be used in every subject.
